The Strange Ride of Albert Gristle

The news that Britain is to have its very own moon mission reminds me - for no very good reason - of one of the funniest of all Private Eye covers. Perhaps it is the fact that it features the Albert Memorial, an edifice which inspires in me an unhealthy fascination.

  1. A few years ago designs were put forward for a British spaceplane called Skylon. Even though it was supposed to be unmanned i could forgive a government an awful lot if it was built.

  2. Ah! Memories of the days when Private Eye covers could actually make me smile... What went so wrong?
