Isamu Noguchi

And, on the subject of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, an Isamu Noguchi exhibition is opening there tomorrow. Noguchi is unfashionable, probably as well known now for his coffee table as for his sculpture. This is a pity as he is a very great artist indeed. The show at the YSP is, we all agreed at the preview, the best exhibition in Britain at the moment. The YSP, I should add, is one of the nation's greatest artistic assets.

  1. do you dabble a bit yourself, Mr. A? I often wonder whether art critics are more than just spectators - I mean, how good a critic can you be without getting your hands dirty?

  2. Yes, the YSP - you don't often get modern art and sheep crap in such close proximity.

(Elephant crap yes, but not often sheep.)

    That'll bring in the punters.

In case you didn't notice, beside the sheep crap; it rains. I know you don't like rain ... (when I went, it was snowing - not conducive to art appreciation).
