Tattoo Anguish

And, while I am being offensive, you might like to study the storm of outrage still in progress as a result of my Ponder Post 10: Tattoos? Daily I marvel at the anguish and impassioned debate inspired by my loathing of skin ink. Is it the fact that it is about skin - a substance that inspires thoughts of racism - that makes them all so upset?

  1. Skin has racy connotations alright, but race itself is very far down the list of things that cross my mind when I think of it.

  2. it's much worse than racism. more like religion. worse than religion because it's both permanent and public. tattooism. shame, shame, shame...

  3. The thing to do with this subject is mention Folsom - hello boys, howya doing? This should increase the hit rate of Bryan's blog so that his income from it will allow him to eat chili beef as often as once a year.

I like tattoos. They're great. I can only suppose that folks dislike them because they must have suffered some awful childhood trauma or, perhaps, failed art at GSE and have felt resentful towards images ever since.

  4. Although I abhor tattoos, I do admire any person who has them on their face or neck. There’s none of that hypocrisy about having them where nobody can see them. It’s the one point where I disagree with Nige. His discreet butterfly tattoo impresses nobody. If I were to get a tattoo, I’d want a large bleeding heart slap bang in the middle of my forehead and a crucifix on my chin.

  5. i hear when they were shooting 'Eastern Promises' Strider, who plays a Russian gangster covered in gangster tats, went into a local Russian bar between takes, in a t-shirt. All the Russian emigrees took one look at his forearms and beat feet, understandably enough.

  6. It's strange that you should disklike tattoos, elberry, since your blog posts strike me as tattoos on the body of your hardcore imaginings. Some arabesques, some brutally sharp-angled, all imaginary though. Isn't it about time you embraced the real deal? I'm not sure I could really say that of Dick and Selena. Dick and Selena - they already sound an item. A small, intimate tattoo apiece might cement their affinity, as Selena has helpfully suggested, but I guess some folks were just created too soft for 'em and I'm not sure Dick has really picked up the hint.

  7. Mark, I'm already spoken for so all hints are wasted on me. And I wouldn't want to encourage those people who keep telling me that I'm actually Elberry and/or Selena, which already happens with too much regularity and despite all the evidence that proves that I lack their wits.

All this talk of tattoos does remind me of a favourite Tom Wait's lines, from '9th & Hennepin', about the woman with the tattooed tears: 'one for every year he's away'. And I suppose the fact that Waits has a few tattoos must give them some credit.

  8. You're right, Dick. Actually, your worry had never occurred to me. Interesting idea. Do people really do that? But you're right. Bad form to encourage nutters lest they think you, I, Selena or elberry might be nutters as well. Let's get back to tattoos, chili and Wakefield.

  9. You should bash the 9/11 'Truth' movement. Just for a laugh. I predict that would generate even more outrage and heat.

  10. ...or even better, own up to having been the man who blew up the WTC, that would certainly cause some upset.

i know Bryan was one of the shooters in Dallas, i recognise him on JFK, the cold glint in the eye as he raises the rifle, but how many of us know he also laid the dynamite on 9/11?

  11. Your original post on tattoos, Bryan, can be summed up as tattoos make me puke and I don't fancy that Angelina Jolie much. You are not likely to get too many considered responses to that are you?
